The problem is this: The canopy cover of trees on Staten Island has fallen below 12%. Compared to other boroughs, urban heat islands now cause summer temperatures to rise by 5°F. Because of poor air quality, childhood asthma rates are 22% higher than the city average. Our solution is this fundraiser for tree planting on Staten Island.
Our Plan:
Over a year, we hope to plant 5,000 native trees in parks, schoolyards, and roadside medians in collaboration with Staten Green Alliance, neighbourhood organizations, and nearby schools. Advantages consist of:
1)Reduced heat stress and cooler neighbourhoods
2) Enhancement of air quality by natural filtration
3)🦉 Wildlife habitat for pollinators and birds
4) 📚 Programs that teach pupils about climate resilience
Fund Breakdown:
1)One native seedling is planted for $25.
2)Tree care costs $100 for six months.
3)$500 goes toward maintenance equipment and school workshops.
Join this Staten Island tree planting fundraiser to support NYC urban canopy efforts. Your donation fuels our environment NGO crowdfunding campaign and bolsters climate action in New York. Together, we can counter heat islands and restore urban forests.
