One of the world's most climate-vulnerable areas is the Sundarbans delta in West Bengal, where rising sea levels and frequent cyclones have caused saltwater intrusion, rendering groundwater unsafe to drink. The residents of the tiny island villages of Gosaba and Satjelia struggle every day to find clean drinking water; women must walk more than three kilometers each day to find drinkable water, and on some days, there is none at all. Our non-profit organization, BlueDrop Initiative, is developing a sustainable solution by putting rooftop rainwater harvesting tanks in five of the most affected villages.
Three to five families can benefit from clean, stored drinking water all year long with each system, which costs ₹55,000. In order to construct 100 tanks and help about 1,200 villages, we need to contribute ₹5.5 lakh.
This idea has already been piloted in one town, and it is operating flawlessly.
We can scale it with your assistance and provide the remainder with clean, life-saving water.
💧 Help ensure that tomorrow someone has access to clean water. Make a donation now.
